dublin writers museum

As mentioned earlier, while we have been in Dublin we visited the Dublin Writers Museum.

But beside the information overload, it was quite an interesting few hours. Everybody knows James Joyce and everybody who ever read one of his books probably guessed already that he was Irish. However, as it turned out, there are quite a lot more famous writers that happen to be Irish. Here are a few examples:

Jonathan Swift, probably most famous for Gulliver’s Travels that, just like Alice in Wonderland, wasn’t a children book to start with.
Thomas Moore, writer of The Last Rose of Summer.
Bram Stroker, yes, Dracula. I actually read it and found it rather boring.
Oscar Wild, The Importance of Being Earnest, to pick just one.
George Bernard Shaw, author of a lovely play named Pygmalion. Never heard about it? Maybe you know it’s musical adaptation, My Fair Lady.
William Butler Yeats, probably best known for The Isle of Statues.
James Joyce, you where expecting me the say Ulysses. Try to read the Dubliners instead.
Patrick Kavanagh, MacMillian & Co.
Brian O’Nolan
, portably better known under his pen-name Myles na Gopaleen. He wrote the mind bending At Swim-Two-Birds.
