fire alarm

Yesterday the in house fire alarm woke me up at 4am. Somebody in the apartment above us turned on an electric radiator, for the first time this season I might add, and it started to produce a lot of smoke. It smelled like somebody was burning his wellingtons, so my guess would be something smouldered inside. They immediately cut off the power supply and it stopped producing smoke. However, the remaining smoke kept on triggering the fire alarm for half an hour, needless to say I overslept that day. I’m happy the alarm went off, but a function to reset a single sensor for an hour, would be a nice to have feature.

It is nice to know that most Irish houses are fitted with fire alarms and I wish so would be the ones in Austria. Given, almost nobody in Austria is using an electric heater, still, most of the family houses burn down at night, when people are asleep and only notice the fire when it is already too late. Two years ago I bought a couple of fire sensors for the house in Austria and they where remarkable cheap. I’m not saying the government should force people to buy one, but it would be nice if they would make citizens aware of there existence.
